Where to find Drinking Water Locally this Summer!

A series of 30 degree days is a reminder of summer’s arrival, making it the perfect time for Goulburn Valley Water and Moira Shire to celebrate a partnership that now gives residents and visitors access to drinking water in community spaces.
The installation of three new hydration stations in 2023 means people can now access drinking water from 11 drinking fountains in 10 towns across the shire.
Numurkah’s second hydration station was installed in Newman Square in June this year. Other stations were installed at the same time at the Katunga Recreation Reserve and Barmah’s Jack Edwards Reserve.
Goulburn Valley Water Managing Director Steve Capewell said providing access to free drinking water through hydration stations was important to help support healthy and active lifestyles.
“Summer months mean more people are out and about so ensuring there is access to free water in community spaces will help people stay hydrated and drink more water in warmer weather,” Dr Capewell said.
Seven other towns also have hydration stations, including on Blake Street in Nathalia and Scott Reserve in Cobram.
Katamatite’s hydration station is located at CR Wood Park, with others located at the Railway Park in Picola, Strathmerton’s Brian Pinnuck Memorial Park in Strathmerton, Wunghnu’s George Graham Park and the Yarroweyah Recreation Reserve.
Moira Shire Acting Chief Executive Officer Michael Tudball said working with Goulburn Valley Water on the installation of all of the hydration stations had been very rewarding.
“We look forward to seeing more and more stations installed around Moira Shire in the coming years,” Mr Tudball said.
It’s great seeing so many hydration stations situated around our shire. From local parks to sporting grounds, we can offer our community an inexpensive, healthy option for hydrating. By choosing to refill, we are not only reducing waste but the energy and resources needed to produce these single-use items,” he said.
“Although plastic water bottles can be recycled, many end up in landfill or as litter, often ending up in our precious waterways, so this is a great initiative to reduce waste in our Shire.”
